May 16th:  I moved compost unto a new patch with Marco.  It’s amazing how much heat compost puts off.  Alan says in the mornings he sometimes sees the rabbits nestled in the compost around the fig trees trying to stay warm.  Then I watered.  In the book “Malabar Farm” Louis Bromfield discusses how he learned to control 80-90% of the rain runoff through sod, contour plowing and strip planting.  Helping water to pool around plants seems pretty obvious after watering the zucchini for five seconds.  The zucchini planted slightly downhill at Vital Zuman Farm are larger.
